Going for the Vintage feel

 

This style of card, I find difficult to make, but I will say try making a few and it does get easier.  For this card, I used the Hostess set, Asian Artistry and stamped all the images on Very Vanilla with Versamark and then embossed with Gold Embossing powder.  Now rip all the edges of the image and then sponge with Creamy Caramel, spray with Log Cabin Smooch Spray and layer onto a piece of Basic Black and kind of follow the ripped edges.  This was then layered onto River Rock Cardstock and three Black brads balance the image. I then matted it with Basic Black and attached to a Very Vanilla standard card base.  See, it is easy, go give it a try.

Trying to use retiring colors

Today's card uses a retiring color and a color I hardly ever use-Really Rust. 

I have sponged the Very Vanilla cardbase and image panel with Close to Close as it just looked too stark and this does seem to make it blend better.  I stamped the image from Asian Artistry on the Very Vanilla with Chocolate Chip ink after I punched a 1 1/4" circle out and layered a piece of Summer Sun in behind.  The bird is stamped on Ruby Red, another retiring color and cut out and attached.  The DSP is from a Hostess pack and then layered onto Really Rust cardstock and a simple knotted piece of Chocolate Chip satin ribbon to finish it off.

Can you ever have too many layers?

I don't think so, though a 9 layer cake might be too much but not on a card.

For this card, I paired Old Olive and River Rock (that returning In Color from 2007-2008) with Pretty in Pink.

Don't they look good together?  It brings out more of the yellow side of the Old Olive(gee, maybe, I will be ok without Kiwi Kiss!)

The DSP is from Shades of Spring from the Occasions Mini and a bit of Pretty in Pink Taffetta ribbon and a mix of flowers from Sweet Pea Stitched Felt from the Mini and a Pink Pirouette felt flower from the old Flower Fusion set.  The sentiment is from Asian Artistry.

Oh it is going to be nice to have back some of these colors, as well as the new ones, just like cleaning out your closet and getting all new clothes!

A Quick Saturday card

 
Haven't used Gold embossing powder in quite some time so pulled it out.  Pretty in Pink base, a little Melon Mambo scalloped strip and then the flower and sentiment from Asian Artistry, a Level 2 hostess set.  Add a bit of coloring with Old Olive and Regal Rose Stampin' Write markers and it is done.

Spring is here!

What a glorious sunny, warm day it was yesterday, can you tell I am not at home, but in the sunshine again! Have spent most of the day weeding, as those wonderful rain storms we had the last time we were here, certainly gave the weeds some life.  The desert is so green, hard to imagine but it looks just like green fields and every now and then, beautiful flowers.  Hopefully today we will get out in the hills and I shall have some pictures to share with you. With the feeling of spring everywhere around me, what a better card than a bird in a tree.  Ok, it really is in bamboo but bamboo is a tree, right?

 
   Using the Perfect Polka Dots impressions folder adds life to the Bashful Blue card base and the image is from Asian Artistry-Level 2 Hostess set and the colors are applied directly to the stamp using Bashful Blue and Old Olive markers and then stamped onto Whisper White.  Add a little Old Olive matting and a Bashful Blue ribbon and it is done.

Faux Linen

is a very easy technique but looks fabulous.  To do this technique, you need glossy card stock and a sanding block.  Rub the block down the glossy cardstock first in one direction then turn the cardstock 90 degrees and repeat.  Do not use back and forth motions, but rather long smooth strokes.  Ink up a sponge with ink and rub over the scratched cardstock in a circular motion.  Then redrag your sanding block in both directions.  Now stamp with your image and you have a wonderful focal image.

Finding the lost Mojo

Been so busy and tired this week, that cardmaking has suffered.  But now the house is back in order, so managed to make a card.

Had alot of trouble with this card, finally chose the colors, made it and then dropped it on the Open Lovely Lavender ink pad, yes, Whisper White is just like a clean kitchen floor.  I had done the sentiment with Almost Amethyst and wasn't happy so pulled out the Lovely Lilac.  Learn the hard way, move your card away from ink pads!!

Quick and easy

but I think stunning is what todays card is.  It used the Hostess Level 2 set, Asian Artistry that I had to get as the extremely talented Sandi McIver, showed so many beautiful cards that she had done with the set.  Here is my version

What I did was cut a card base from Whisper White at 5 1/2 x 11 and scored at 5 1/2.  Using my Circle Scissor I cut a 4" circle and using the negative as a mask stamped my images in Black Stazon.  Then without removing the mask, I sponged on Bashful Blue, Bordering Blue and Brocade Blue, filling in the background.  The littlle dragonfly wings I colored with my Mellow Moss marker and the body with Sage Shadow marker, applied a little bit of Two way glue and sprinkled on the Dazzling Diamonds.  The sentiment is from The More the Merrier set punced out with the Large Oval and layered on a Black Scalloped Oval, highlighting with my White Gel pen.
